The Requirement

Idaho Code 33-1811 states, no later than the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, each instructional staff member and instructional coach employed by an educational agency ranging from grades K-5, must receive dyslexia professional development. The same holds true for teachers, administrators and school counselors with an instructional certificate for grades 6-12.



The requirement for educators with an certificate expiration date after the start of 2025-2026 school year is required to earn a minimum of 1 credit of professional development in dyslexia (1 credit= 15 hours course work).


The Options

 R.E.A.D. (Reading Education and Dyslexia) introduces educators to the study of literacy instruction for students with dyslexia and related disorders, and is specifically geared to the characteristics of dyslexia, related disorders, definitions, basic terminology, and research-based components of instruction. 

These courses provide practical application in the foundation of reading development to allow teachers to make informed instructional decisions for students with dyslexia and related disorders.
